Spring Clothing Swap Partnership

Hanging Clothes at a Landfill

As spring returns to Clermont County, so does the perfect opportunity to refresh our closets and our commitment to the planet. This season, the Clermont County Park District is excited to partner with GLAM (Give like a Mother) and the West Clermont School District to host a community Spring Clothing Swap on April 8th from 5pm-7pm at our Pattison Lodge.

In a world where fast fashion has become the norm, the environmental cost of our clothing choices is staggering. Each year, millions of tons of textiles end up in landfills, many made from synthetic fibers that can take decades OR even centuries to break down. The production of new clothing also demands enormous amounts of water, energy, and chemical processing. When we extend the life of a garment, even by one more owner, we reduce waste, conserve resources, and lighten our collective footprint.

Beyond the ecological benefits, swaps strengthen something just as important: community. There’s something special about gathering, sharing stories, and passing along items that still have life left in them. A shirt becomes more than fabric-it becomes a thread connecting people. A jacket finds a new home. A child’s outgrown outfit becomes another family’s treasure. These exchanges remind us that sustainability isn’t only about reducing waste-it’s about building relationships, supporting one another, and creating a culture of care.

We’re proud to collaborate with GLAM and West Clermont Schools to make this event accessible, welcoming, and fun for all ages. Whether you’re looking to declutter, discover a new favorite piece or learn a new skill, we hope you’ll join us. In addition to access to free clothing, we will be hosting artist lead block printing, a fabric pill removal station, a beginner’s hand sewing lesson and a station on bleach dying and painting!
